Overseeding and Aeration
Overseeding is the process of sewing grass seed into a lawn that is thin or bare. This usually happens in Oklahoma in shaded areas where common Bermuda grass doesn't receive enough sunlight. Due to being in the transition zone, most fescue grass will begin to die off around July and August and will need to be re-seeded every year.
Overseeding is best done in early fall. This gives the grass time to establish itself before winter. We will use a premium seed that will deliver excellent results for your climate. This seeding will be done at the maximum rate to yield the absolute best results. We will then apply a starter fertilizer to ensure the seed has the nutritional requirements to thrive and receive beneficial root development.
During this time, watering your new fescue seeds is key, as the seeds need plenty of water to germinate. Water at least once a day, ensuring that the seeds are moist. Once the seed germinates, water once about every 3 days until the new grass becomes established.
Lawn Aeration
Aeration is the process of perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots. This helps to cut down on thatch buildup, alleviates soil compaction and root stress, and provides a better growing environment for your turf, resulting in a stronger, more vigorous lawn. Aerating is one of the most important cultural practices and should be considered annually.
